Damages from poor work by others - Matt has Repaired

Ever wish that foresight had the twenty - twenty vision of hind sight? Now you can have such an advantage when it comes to some of your home improvement projects. Unfortunately, I have a vast collection of photos, evidence if you will, of the damage that can occur when an incompetent contractor is hired to complete your home improvement projects. Here is a small, and I emphasize small, sample of what I have seen.

Take a simple roof repair scenario: The first fella can fix your roof leak for $100.00 and do it in one hour. He is going to tar or patch the problem area, and by the way, if it leaks again, he is either out of business or mysteriously MIA. The next fella will do it for $150 and it will take him three hours. He is going to replace the damaged shingles and glue them down. If there is a problem this fella will repair it. You get the point. If ever it was crucial to realize the difference in apples and oranges, it is true in the remodeling and handy man business. This scenario is played out every day in our area and on a much larger scale.

WARNING: Due to their graphic nature, the following photos may be disturbing to those who take pride in their homes. Viewer discretion is advised.

Interior damage as the results of an improperly installed plumbing vents flashing.

Damage from improper valley installation. This after it was quote, "Repaired" by the original installer. The felt hung in there awhile, but it is not made or intended for continued exposure to the concentrated volume of water in a valley area.

This damage is a result of a lack of flashing and a door pan. This happens to be a second story door, and as you can see it got contagious in hurry. The first floor framing, wall coverings, insulation, trim etc. all had to be replaced and or removed. First floor repairs are no better. They result in crawl space or basement work, propping the floor and replacing floor framing, floor coverings etc.
